Business communication
You can read your emails without difficulty but replying still feels challenging? When speaking on the phone you sometimes search for the right words and are unsure whether the other person has understood you correctly – and vice versa? This is a situation many of my learners describe every day.Successful communication in an international business environment requires confident use of the world’s most widely used lingua franca – English. It is worth remembering that around 75% of global business communication takes place between people whose first language is not English. What really matters is the ability to use an international form of English that helps you achieve your professional goals. My training sessions focus on strengthening your practical communication skills so that you can communicate effectively and efficiently with international colleagues, clients and partners. Typical questions addressed in these workshops include:
• How can I communicate my message clearly and successfully?
• How can misunderstandings be avoided?
• Am I using the appropriate level of formality and politeness?
• Can I recognise hidden meanings and indirect messages?
Possible focus areas of the workshops include:
• Managing meetings effectively
• Working with new media, online tools and GenAI
• Delivering professional presentations
• Writing emails and handling telephone communication
• Negotiating successfully and achieving results.
across
cultures
What role does the cross-cultural dimension play in my training sessions? Business English is required in many different contexts because companies increasingly operate internationally and employees collaborate with people from different countries and cultural backgrounds. In my workshops, we focus on how successful cooperation in such environments can be achieved:
What to consider when working with customers and suppliers from other cultures
• How to create and maintain a strong team culture
• How to manage diverse and international teams
• The influence of professional and corporate cultures
• How communication can be improved across cultural and linguistic boundaries
• How teams can collaborate successfully in remote or virtual environments
Effective team building strengthens international and virtual collaboration. Participants learn how to overcome cultural stereotypes and barriers, enabling teams to work together more productively. As a result, many potential conflicts can be prevented from the very beginning.
in english
In many industries, English has become the standard language of business. Different professional roles require different linguistic skills and competencies. In my training courses, I focus on helping participants develop the vocabulary and communication strategies needed in real business situations, enabling them to perform their job confidently in English – even in demanding communication environments. Typical situations covered include:
• Explaining technical issues
• Presenting company figures to management or board members
• Discussing contracts and agreements
Tailored training programmes are available for professionals in:
• Finance, Accounting & Controlling
• Sales & Marketing
• Human Resources (HR)
• Engineering
Academic & Scientific Writing and Presenting
Requirements for scientific publications in the international (English-speaking) academic environment often differ significantly from local standards. Good academic writing involves more than correct grammar and sentence structure. Researchers must present convincing arguments, provide clear explanations and use language that is appropriate for the target audience in order to increase the chances of publication. My workshops support PhD candidates and researchers in improving both their academic writing skills and their presentation skills for international conferences.
Presenting SCC Training & Work Safety Courses in English
Companies operating globally understand the importance of occupational health and safety training, which often needs to be conducted in English. These courses frequently prepare participants for the SCC certification exams for employees (SCC018) and managers (SCC017). They can also help international employees familiarise themselves with German regulations on workplace safety and environmental protection.SCC training courses and examinations are offered in cooperation with TUEV Nord Akademie.
...and translations
Translation is the process of transferring meaning from one language into another. For this reason, effective translation requires professionals who truly feel at home in both languages and understand the specific requirements of different types of texts.
For example, a legal contract must be translated very differently from a marketing campaign. Marketing texts require the transfer of ideas and concepts, often involving creative adaptation in the target language, while legal documents demand wording that remains very close to the original.
My extensive experience as a translator, copy-editor, author and proofreader enables me to find the most appropriate solution for every project. Where appropriate, I also make use of AI translation tools, particularly for standard texts or first drafts. At the same time, I understand the current limitations of these tools and know exactly what must be considered when proofreading AI-generated translations. This allows my clients to benefit not only from cost efficiency but also from the assurance that the final translation fully meets their professional requirements.
I am certified as a translator by the IHK (Chamber of Commerce and Industry) for English–German and German–English translations and have been authorised by the Higher Regional Court in Hamm, Germany, to certify the accuracy of translations.
If required, I also offer interpreting and professional copy-editing services.
